Howard County Chinese School (HCCS), established in December 1998, located in Columbia, MD (Howard County) is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious Chinese School, registered in the state of Maryland. HCCS is a member of the Chinese School Association of the United States (CSAUS). Its mission is to promote the Chinese ethnic and linguistic culture by educating the young generation to learn Chinese. At the same time, communication between parents can be promoted.
HCCS enrolls children starting at the age of four and half, and regardless of whether or not they are from Chinese origin. It offers classes for adult students as well. The school teaches Mandarin, simplified characters, and Chinese phonetic alphabet.
HCCS has set up Chinese classes for students from the pre-school ages up to those in the 10th grade, also offers bilingual classes and after-school classes of interesting mathematics, painting, dancing, chorus, and martial arts (such as Tai Chi) for children and adults. HCCS currently has around 550 students registered.
The school hours are from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm every Sunday.
Ma Liping Chinese Codes
HCCS has adopted “Standard Chinese” textbook compiled by the Chinese curriculum materials Research Institute and published by the People’s Education Publishing House, and Ma Liping’s multimedia teaching materials.
